Brad Delson told The Pulse of Radio that it sets the tone for the rest of the record. “‘A Thousand Suns’ is definitely a diverse and eclectic record, and at the same time it has a cohesive sound. And we did think that ‘The Catalyst’ would be a good first representation of the album. It’s very different from anything we’ve done before, and it’s just a journey.”
