Linkin Park stop their set to help an injured fan
A review from MTV Australia
The boys deliver a strong set packed with fan favourites
As the sun began to drop at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium, the biggest crowd of the day moved in to see one of the most anticipated bands of the stellar Soundwave lineup, Linkin Park!
The boys entered and kicked things off with ‘A Place For My Head.’ They followed with ‘Given Up,’ ‘New Divide’ and ‘With You,’ which had an enthusiastic crowd singing and jumping around.
The band roared into ‘Points of Authority’ which had the audience bouncing until singer Chester Bennington abruptly stopped the song half way through. Spotting an injured fan in the crowd, he called for a stretcher and the band refused to play again until the fan was safely out of the mosh.
Chester is a great front man with a strong voice that’s worth mentioning. Singing live, he can be soft and melodic, and still be capable of delivering the powerful vocal that is synonymous with Linkin Park’s music. He’s good on stage and, as we saw, really looks out for his fans….what a nice guy!
Not to be outdone, multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda showed us that he’s just as at home singing and rapping on the mic as he is behind the keyboard or with a guitar slung over his shoulder.
‘In the End’ and ‘Numb’ were favourites in a strong set that was well balanced for a festival crowd. The band played tracks from each of their five studio albums, including the heavy-hitting tunes ‘Burn It Down’ and ‘Castle of Glass’ from their most recent release ‘Living Things.’
As Linkin Park’s set was coming to an end, night fell and the band’s light show could really start to take effect. The band closed with their debut single ‘One Step Closer’ – this proved to be the highlight of the show, and even had crowd members way up the back out of their seats.
