Vandy students are first to hear anti-drinking, anti-drug message
posted by Jas, 02/29/05
The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports: About 700 students packed into Vandercook Lake High School to hear rock group Linkin Park and actress Hilary Duff talk about the dangers of alcohol and drugs. They were the first in Jackson County to watch "Backstage Pass," a national multimedia assembly program from Mothers Against Drunk Driving featuring young celebrities. The film, shown on three giant screens, features interviews in which the celebrities downplay the alcohol- and drug-fueled backstages. Narrators take teens through the on-stage hype and backstage realities, encouraging them to develop their own personalities based on health and safety, not popularity. "Yeah, it kind of hit home," eighth-grader Patrick Furlong said of getting the information from Linkin Park, a band he likes. Full report

All files are hosted at RapidShare unless otherwise stated so follow the instructions carefully, they're at the top of the page. If you have any problem downloading or any questions just email me.

Those who haven't sent in your request for the Wish and One Step Closer videos from 2004 RaR concert please do so now! you have till Sunday midnight (Update: these three files are now offline, any request for these videos will be ignored). Rockers open school of songwriting
    posted by Jas, 03/08/05
The Daily Collegian reports that Chad Kroeger of Nickelback and Chester Bennington have decided to lend their talent to the recently opened The School of Song Writing in Anaheim, California. Chester said, "I see so many musicians falling into the same creative traps, for example, you have to write for a specific audience. And if you're in your 20s, it's really difficult to grow an audience of your peers because so many of them are off doing unique things and having unique experiences. If you're going to play any kind of hard rock and be successful nowadays, it's got to appeal to teenagers. And how do you do that? You make your lyrics as vague and relatable as possible. Take the chorus for 'One Step Closer' for example. It took me forever to come up with those lines, but when I finally nailed them down, I felt like I had really done something great." Full report

    Interview with Kutless
    posted by Jas, 03/08/05
Aaron reports that Jesusfreakhideout.com has an interview with a band called "Kutless" dated 6/3/03 and they mention Linkin Park as being one of their main influences

JfH: What artists have influenced your sound?
Jon Micah: Unfortunately, there are very few Christian bands that have a good "nu-metal"/"popmetal" sound. Because of this we had to pull musical influences from some secular sources such as Linkin Park, Incubus, Nickleback, and Staind. These groups, while musically very talented, unfortunately do not always have the most positive messages. We have had to be very careful as we try to pull musical ideas from their music, without taking in too much of their negative messages.

Mike Shinoda's solo album may divide Linkin Park fans
    posted by Jas, 03/07/05
Update: MTV.com has posted a report on Mike solo album. This is basically a transcript from the video I posted yesterday

Linkin Park rapper Mike Shinoda has spent the last six months raising funds for tsunami victims, designing a line of DC shoes, co-authoring a book and establishing a scholarship at his alma mater, the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. And what did he do in his off time? Not much. He only recorded a solo album.

While backstage at last month's Music for Relief: Rebuilding South Asia concert, the workhorse MC/producer told MTV News that he's been keeping busy with a hip-hop-tinged side project that he hopes won't offend Linkin Park's guitar-lovin' fanbase.

"It's not straight hip-hop, but it's not rock at all. For our fans who only like the rock side of Linkin Park, I hope you enjoy it, but you never know," he said. "I am playing every instrument on there, but it's not really about me. I'm featuring a lot of great MCs that are friends of mine. I want to work with people that I'm friends with, that I get along with. I'm not just going to go out there and grab whoever's hot at the moment."

Shinoda said that Common and the Roots' Black Thought are just two of the MCs on the album, which at the moment has no release date or working title. But he did explain that he is producing every track on the disc, and to complement the A-list talent he's lined up, he's been burning the midnight oil to make sure the beats are up to snuff.

"I'm trying to get the music up to what we want it to be. It's pressure, because I'm producing it," he laughed. "I want to connect with people I see eye-to-eye with, and make great music. Like I said, it's not really about me."

(Suppose you were to die tonight,
    What would you say?
Do you believe in life after death?)

In the chill of the night,
I can feel my heart racing,
As I run towards the light
    that seems so far away,
Wandering forever in the darkest of shadows,
Wondering if I will ever see you again.

Wondering if I will ever see you again

I'll take your love (I'll take your love).
I'll take your hate (take your hate).
    I'll take your desire.

    I'll take the world
When it turns on you (when it turns on you),
    I'll set it afire.

(The walking dead, the walking dead.)

    Digging in the dirt,
I can feel you getting closer,
Steadying my hands through the blistering pain,
Anxiously awaiting for the earth to reveal you,
Wondering if I will ever see you again.

Wondering if I will ever see you again.

I'll take your love (I'll take your love.,
I'll take your hate (take your hate).
    I'll take your desire.

    I'll take your heart.
I'll take your pain (I'll take your pain).
    I'll bring you to life.

    I'll bring you to life...

(The walking dead, the walking dead.)

    I'll bring you to life...

I'll take your love (I'll take your love).
I'll take your hate (take your hate).
    I'll take your desire.

    I'll take the world
When it turns on you (when it turns on you).

Linkin Park trademark case thrown out
    posted by Jas, 03/01/05
Reuters reports that a judge has rejected a bid by Linkin Park to trademark its name for use on posters.

A judge has rejected a bid by Californian nu-metal band Linkin Park to trademark its name for use on posters, leaving shopkeepers free to sell unofficial posters of music and show business personalities. In a landmark judgement which means the band cannot sue suppliers of unauthorised posters, Judge Richard Arnold said on Tuesday that unlike merchandise such as CDs and books, a famous name appearing on a poster was purely descriptive.

"Third parties are, of course, entitled to take and exploit pictures of celebrities -- the copyright in a picture of Linkin Park belongs to the creator of it and not necessarily to the group itself," he said. In the mind of a shopper, the name that appears on a poster indicates that the goods are related to the person or group rather than suggesting that it was supplied by them, he ruled.

The band's lawyers had countered that it was unnecessary for a trader in posters to use the band's name, but the judge disagreed, saying it would be difficult to deal with wholesalers or retailers without it. "Even so far as consumers are concerned, I do not believe that the members of the group are as recognisable as, say, David Beckham -- which, if it were the case, might permit posters to be sold to consumers by image alone."

MFR benefit concert raises over one million dollars
    posted by Jas, 03/01/05
A press release from Market Wire about the Music For Relief benefit concert which has raised over one million dollars.

An all-star lineup which included No Doubt, Linkin Park with Jay-Z, Jurassic 5, Story of the Year, The Crystal Method and Camp Freddy came together at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, CA, February 18, 2005, for a united cause, Music For Relief: Rebuilding South Asia. The benefit concert was a phenomenal achievement on all fronts; most notably in its success in raising over 1 million dollars for the ongoing rebuilding effort in South Asia and surrounding countries.

Commenting on the success of the show, Brad Delson of Linkin Park had this to say, "It's hard to fully express just how grateful we are for the massive effort that made Music For Relief's Concert at The Pond such a tremendous success. So many amazing people came together to pull off what turned out to be an incredibly powerful night. We are pleased to announce that due to the generosity of the artists, fans, and other remarkable individuals who donated energy, resources and time, over one million dollars was raised. This money will allow UNICEF and Habitat for Humanity to continue essential projects aimed at rebuilding homes, schools, and lives in South Asia." -- Full report
