Linkin Park offer up a present for fans

Rob talks about LPU 6 CD and touring in an interview with AOL
Linkin Park's Rob Bourdon and the rest of his bandmates decided to check in from the studio with an exclusive photo, because we all know Christmas can't come too soon. But that's not the only gift Bourdon has in store. He thinks the group's latest annual holiday offering, 'LPU6,' available to fan club members and, for the first time, at Best Buy, will be the gift that keeps on giving to die-hard fans. "I definitely think that this CD is the best one we've done so far," he tells AOL Music.
Bourdon believes the fan-friendliness of the six-track package, which comprises new studio and live recordings, is a direct result of the work the sextet has put in on its eagerly anticipated new record with producer Rick Rubin. "This does have two new tracks from the studio," Bourdon says. "We've never been able to be in the studio and have a ton of extra songs and be writing while putting the fan pack together. So that's been a huge bonus." Among the songs is 'Qwerty,' which Bourdon can't wait to play live again after debuting it this past summer. "It's probably the heaviest song we've ever written," he says. "And usually those songs tend to be the most fun to play in front of an audience."
The band has just announced its first confirmed date for 2007, headlining the second day of the Bamboozle Fest at the Meadowlands, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on May 6. Bourdon is so eager to get back to the stage he is literally dreaming about it. "It was like one of those dreams where you go to school and you realize you don't have any pants on," he says. "All of a sudden we had come out of the studio and we were onstage, and I hadn't had a chance to rehearse or go over any of the stuff again. It was just like playing on the fly."
His dream notwithstanding, he says the band is set to go. "I looked at some clips yesterday, and seeing us playing live onstage in front of an audience, I got really excited about it," he says. "And I can't wait to play the new stuff, because I think that the fans are going to be really pleasantly surprised by the new direction that we've taken our music."

LPU 6 CD review
posted by Jas, 12/17/06
Ultimate Guitar reviews the LPU 6 CD. Thanks to Chad for the tip.
It should be said that the musicianship is still excellent on each song on LPU6 and vocalist Chester Bennington's vocals are stronger than ever. The rap-sing-scream style gives Linkin Park a unique sound all its own, even with the other bands that attempt to try the same thing these days. The LPU6 is meant to be a gift to the fans, and it's likely that the most dedicated LP followers will love it. It gives a taste of what the band is working on for the future, which is a great gesture on the part of the band.
In terms of overall listening quality, it wasn't the best that Linkin Park has offered -- but again, it's not necessarily meant to be. While the live shows add a fantastic energy to the shows, the songwriting underneath it all still gets a bit monotonous at times. There is still a huge amount of musical talent in Linkin Park, so it's likely they'll have the know-how to make the full-length record a solid one. Full review

FMQB has a short mention on the LPU 6 CD and a brief quote from Rob hinting that Qwerty will not be on the new album
Each year, Linkin Park releases a special CD, LP Underground, exclusively for its fan club members. This year, the latest edition, LPU6, will also be available in Best Buy stores, as well as online at the Web site LPUnderground.com. The six-track EP features two songs from the band's current studio session for their upcoming album and some unreleased live tracks. "Over the last year we have written so many new songs and really wanted to give some of the early ideas to our hardcore fans that will not be on the new album," said LP's Rob Bourdon. "Other tracks include a live version of an old track from back when our band was called XERO, and some special live tracks we played at the Japan shows this past August."

Rob has sent a message via LP Newsletter regarding the LPU 6 which will be out tomorrow. Go to your nearby Best Buy for a limited editions LPU Fan Pack while stocks lasts. Watch the LPU 6 Promo Video Here to see what LPU is all about!
Hey LP Fans,
The relationship we have with you has always been and still is very important to us. When we got to the point in our career when we couldn't hang out at the merch booth and speak with you guys one on one, we decided to create a fan club where hardcore Linkin Park fans could get unreleased music, autographs in person and other exclusive items and benefits. LP Underground has been around since 2001. This is the first year that we're making it available to the fans by selling it in Best Buy stores as well as online at LPUnderground.com. In addition to the package, we're going to continue meeting our fanclub members at just about every show at LPU meet and greets. We also have a new mobile aspect to the club with ringtones, text alerts, and a special website with exclusive content. I think this year's LPU6 CD is the best one to date!
We look forward to sharing our full studio album with all new music with you next year, but in the meantime we wanted to give our fan club something exclusive. YOU guys make everything we do possible and in return, we will continue to make LPU the best fanclub around.

Wes reports that there's a short article about Linkin Park in the December 2006 issue of Blender Magazine and Chester revealed that the next Linkin Park album will be called "T__and T__" (he only gave a hint). He also described that the house they are recording in (Rick Rubin's house) used to be home to gangster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel and it is where Harry Houdini's mistress lived. They also said that the album is due in February '07. I don't have a scan unfortunately, thanks Wes. Update 12/03/06: Chris sent in a scan of the article.
