Joe Hahn: Risk and Reward
posted by Jas, 06/05/06
Better late than never, winter '95 issue of Yamaha magazine has an interview with Joe Hahn, thanks to Rene for the tip.
For someone who never intended to become a professional musician, Hahn has carved out an impressive artistic niche for himself with Linkin Park. "We've taken a lot of risks, and they've turned out well," he reflects. "The way we see it, music is music—genres don't matter. I'd love to see new types of music grow and different subgenres develop. People always want to be inspired by art and music. And if that keeps on happening, the world is a better place."
Joe is currently assembling a new home studio, where he plans to work on music for Linkin Park and other projects. "I have everything laid out," he says. "I have my turntables, CD players, samplers, and keyboards with Pro Tools, and then everything runs through a Yamaha 02R96 mixing board." -- Full interview

In the groove

A review of Fort Minor's "The Rising Tied" album, also read a thank you note from Mike at FM's Myspace blog.
Fort Minor is the other name of Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park. This album is a heady mix of hip hop and rap. He is not the kind of guy who supports violence and takes you to a gangster's paradise. In Cigarettes he severely criticises gangsterism. In the first track, Remember the name, Mike is inspired by the style of Beyond. In stereo is a great track. It has a good range of samples that can become popular in the club circuit. Red to black follows the Linkin Park formula. And Slip out the back would make you want to listen to Eminem. Not exactly a great album, The Rising Tied is perfect for a headbanger's ball. A good buy for lovers of exotica and hip hop.
