posted by Jas, 03/16/06
Blabbermouth reports that Metallica and Linkin Park are among many other bands to be featured in the "Rick Rubin: In the Studio" book set to be released in late fall this year.

In the late fall of 2006, Rock N' Roll Books will release "Rick Rubin: In the Studio", a book focusing on the mega-producer's incredible 20-plus-year producing career. Devoted as a studio study to the making of each of Rubin's multiplatinum smashes — with bands ranging from the Beastie Boys and Run DMC to Johnny Cash and the Red Hot Cilli Peppers, Danzig to Linkin Park and Tom Petty to Metallica among many others — this book will feature interviews with band members as well as interview material with the producer himself discussing the making of each record in his wide-ranging, multi-genre catalog.

"Rick Rubin: In the Studio" is being authored by biographer Jake Brown, whose "In the Studio" series also includes previously published books on Tupac Shakur and Motley Crue.

Transcript of a chat with Rob on Thursday is now up on LPU, about the new LP album he said there's no name for it yet, they are experimenting with a new way of writing and starting all of the songs in a different format. They had over 70 song ideas when they entered the studio but now have narrowed down to 32 songs and obviously will continue to narrow it further. They hope to have a single and album out by year end. Rob also confirmed the Summer Sonic festival in Japan with Metallica and said that there's a possibility that Linkin Park will be going to South Africa sometime this year.

Update on new LP album from Mike
    posted by Jas, 03/06/06
A message from Mike via the official LP Newsletter

hey LP Fans! it's mike...i'm writing from a hotel in thailand right now, on tour with my fort minor project. meanwhile, i wanted to give you a little update on how the next LP album is going.

we've been working on new stuff for a few months at this point, and we have about 40-50 ideas. some of them are just little musical phrases, some are full blown songs with vocals. all are very exciting.

as many of you know, we'll be working with producer rick rubin on the next album. we were looking for someone with experience in diverse musical styles, whose music taste is as diverse as ours. seeing that rick has produced albums for groups like red hot chili peppers, slayer, beastie boys, neil diamond, jay-z, system of a down, and johnny cash, i think it's safe to say that he's pretty versatile. the other guys have put me in charge of production on our end, so you'll see that the production credit on the next record will read "rick rubin and mike shinoda." i have to thank the guys in a huge way for trusting me with this honor and challenge--we're going to make a great record. as for the sound of it, i think you will recognize our style and personality in the sound, but we definitely want to step outside the box and make something new and different. we have been challenging ourselves to do something that will keep all the things we/you like about linkin park, and then add new sounds and styles that you've never heard from us.

*BIG NEWS* linkin park is co-headlining summer sonic in tokyo and osaka with metallica on the weekend of august 12th and 13th! check linkinpark.com for more info about this coming soon. see you there...

as for me, i'm writing as i travel and tour with fort minor, on the plane and in hotel rooms. i have been putting my ideas down on paper, laptop, and even in my phone! the fort minor shows have been amazing, and all the fans have been phenomenal, as usual :) i think the next FM single is going to be "where'd you go," and it's starting to pop up here and there...thanks for being behind it. all of the guys from styles of beyond, with the rest of our band, are seeing asia and australia for the first time on this tour, and they couldn't have asked for a better first experience.

anyway, i gotta go eat breakfast. thanks again for the support!

    Mike

    FM Thailand concert review
    posted by Jas, 03/05/06
TMCnet has posted their not so good review of Fort Minor's concert in Thailand, I'm sure many Thai fans don't agree.

The 'Mike Shinoda solo project' of sorts started with Remember The Name, Goin Down and Dolla. Their set was entertaining but sadly it did not manage to get the crowd to react the way they did with Thaitanium. The audience mostly responded to Fort Minor when they did their own version of Linkin Park's In The End - a more hip hop version nonetheless.

Shinoda and crew threw everything at the crowd. From drum solos to its strings section, Black Violin, doing some pretty cool riffs on their violins and cello. It became a painful running theme for their performance - Fort Minor would try to get the crowd to jump and shout and mostly fail at every turn. It wasn't because their performance was bad or that the audience were not enjoying themselves. It was mostly some communication issues as well as the fact that since Fort Minor is a relatively new act on the scene, there are fewer songs that the crowd could recognise and appreciate fully. Fort Minor's set ran for around an hour before the main event came on stage. -- Full interview
