"What I've Done" debuts at #1 on the BDS and Mediabase Alternative charts.
Musicrypt Inc., the leader in secure digital media distribution, today announced that it has successfully delivered the highly anticipated new single by the multi-platinum selling band Linkin Park to radio stations across the United States. On Monday morning April 2, 2007 at 7am ET, DMDS delivered the single "What I've Done" simultaneously to hundreds of radio programmers. This exclusive, historic delivery marks the first time that a major record label in the US has released a significant new single entirely by digital means to radio, thereby eliminating the major expense of producing and shipping physical CDs. Today, the song "What I've Done" debuts at #1 on the BDS and Mediabase Alternative charts.
The Warner Bros. promotional staff worked hand in hand with the Musicrypt marketing team for the week leading up to this release. This marketing campaign included a daily electronic notification (eNote) leading up to the release date, a 30-sec stream of the song and exact, to the minute time of availability via DMDS. Because of this collaborative effort, over 95% of Mainstream Rock and Rock Alternative chart-monitored radio stations were simultaneously and securely given access to "What I've Done" in the highest CD broadcast quality. My Chemical Romance looking forward to Projekt Revolution
posted by Jas, 04/09/07
My Chemical Romance is looking forward to Projekt Revolution.
Although Linkin Park has been keeping the lineup for this summer's Projekt Revolution tour more secret than a Dick Cheney meeting with the oil industry, that doesn't mean there's a gag order on the other artists involved. My Chemical Romance guitarist Ray Toro told us that his band is going to be there for sure: "We're definitely looking forward to it. There's a lot of great bands on the tour. I think, you know, Linkin Park, they're, you know, we've met those guys and they're a really great band. You know, they do what they do better than anybody else, they have a true love for what they do and, you know, they're all hard workers and we're excited to go out on a tour like that." Other groups rumored to be included in the Projekt Revolution lineup are Placebo, Taking Back Sunday, H.I.M., Saosin, the Bled and Mindless Self-Indulgence. There has yet to be an official confirmation of any acts.
Review of What I've Done
posted by Jas, 04/09/07
A negative review of What I've Done from Newsday
SONG OF THE WEEK. Considering how much goodwill Linkin Park racked up in recent years, with their collabos with Jay-Z and their knack for inserting interesting snippets - a techno swirl here, a hip-hop groove there - into their workmanlike, broad-shouldered, hook-heavy rock, "What I've Done" (Warner Bros./Machine Shop) plays it way too safe. There's no deviation from the well-worn formula of turned-up guitars, angst-ridden lyrics and Chester Bennington's yearning yowls - no Mike Shinoda rap, no intricate rhythms.
It's as straightforward as they get and even more predictable, made even more ordinary now that armies of copycats seeking a slice of Linkin Park's sales have diluted the band's style further.
They will need more than this to persuade people to buy the upcoming "Minutes to Midnight" album rather than screaming along to "Hybrid Theory" again.

Q&A session with Chester Bennington
posted by Jas, 04/05/07
Rolling Stone has posted an interview with Chester where he talked about Minutes To Midnight. They also have a preview of the album
For their ambitious, rocking third disc, Minutes to Midnight, Linkin Park made the bold decision to abandon the rap-rock style they helped usher into the mainstream. "It's already been done," says singer Chester Bennington, whose band brought in Rick Rubin to help find a new sound. (Co-frontman Mike Shinoda shares the producing credit.) "[Rubin] was the first person on our list of people we wanted to work with," says Bennington. "He seemed really into shaking things up." At Rubin's suggestion, the band, which typically writes in the studio, arrived with more than 100 songs sketched out and used studio time to structure and arrange them. "It was very tedious," says Bennington. "But in the end we walked away with a record we can live with." The twelve resulting songs include the string-heavy ballads "Leave Out All the Rest" and "Shadow of the Day," as well as more textured cuts like "The Little Things You Give Away," featuring glitchy, syncopated beats. The latter track's lyrics ("The levees are broken. . . . Six feet under water") suggest a Hurricane Katrina connection, but Bennington prefers not to divulge too much. "We're at an age where we're paying attention to politics," he says. "But we don't want to preach."

Linkin Park's video for its new single, "What I've Done", makes its broadcast premiere on MTV and its official online debut via AOL on Thursday (April 5). MC Mike Shinoda told Launch that the clip, which switches between the band performing and stock footage of world events, was definitely intended to make a statement. "I think there's a certain, a few different statements being made in the video," he said. "It's very, you know, aware of the social and political climates here in the States and in the world, and, you know, it's not meant to be political per se — we're not a very political band, I don't think anything's being said in the video that has never been said before. I just think that this video is the kind of thing that could start conversations and get people thinking, and that's exactly what we want."

Chester in KL press conference
posted by Jas, 04/04/07
Malaysian paper, Harian Metro has a report on the Chester's press conference in Kuala Lumpur, they also mention that he arrived with his wife and son. Brief translation below
Out of the 12 songs, probably only 3 or 4 have that Linkin Park trademark sound. Chester said they took a long time to think about and produce new sound that's different from before. "It was a conscious decision to not sound like our previous albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora. We didn't want to restrict our music to a particular genre. With this album, we wanted to step out of the box. The important elements of Linkin Park are still there, but they are presented in a different way,"
Fans will realise that there is less rap in the new album, Mike took a brave step in singing lead in a ballad called 'In Between'. "The lack of rap in the new album happened coincidently and it was not planned. From the start of the writing process, Mike has written a collection of great songs in terms of melody and this song sound better when it is sung rather than Mike rapping. So we made a decision that Mike should sing it because he's the only one who can deliver it and it shows, his beautiful voice makes the song perfect."
On the change of Linkin Park's image Chester said, "We're not teenagers anymore and we are now more comfortable with the rocker image". Plans are underway for a world tour that will include South America, South Africa and Europe and they hope to come to Malaysia again.

Mike talks about the 'What I've Done' single
Linkin Park released "What I've Done" this week as the first single from the band's upcoming third album, "Minutes to Midnight". Band MC and record co-producer Mike Shinoda told Launch that the track is a great representation of the musical progression Linkin Park has made on the new CD. "I think it was a great song to pick as a first single because it's very indicative of what's going on in the record," he said. "Like, from the album title to the lyrics on just about every song, there are different takes on what it all means. It's gonna be interesting to see what people think of a song like 'What I've Done', you know, the first time they listen to it, versus the fifth and tenth time, versus the hundredth time, you know, 'cause it's gonna change. There's a lot going on in there."
The video for "What I've Done" went on sale, along with the song itself, at iTunes on Tuesday (April 3). The clip, directed by Linkin Park DJ Joseph Hahn, will premiere on MTV and AOL this Thursday (April 5). "Minutes to Midnight" arrives on May 15. Fans who pre-order the album through iTunes will receive a deluxe digital version featuring bonus tracks.

'What I've Done' review
posted by Jas, 04/03/07
First press review of 'What I've Done' single
Linkin Park's first single from its forthcoming third studio album, "Minutes to Midnight" (due May 15), sounds the band's artistic death knell. After an opening of slasher-flick piano tinkling, "What I've Done" lapses into a melody so unmemorable you forget it mid-listen. Never a great band, Linkin Park showed flickers of genius on 2003's "Meterora" and the bad-but-interesting Jay-Z mash-ups on 2004's "Collision Course." Those flickers have been violently extinguished. "What I've Done" was produced with Rick Rubin, but it offers average vocals, unremarkable music and a DJ who must have been on a bathroom break during the 15 minutes the band took to write and record it. 'What I've Done' video caps
posted by Jas, 04/02/07
Here are screencaps of the full video, I have to say, when first I heard the full song and the lyrics it has no impact on me, I thought it was just another song until I saw the video. This is one very powerful video and I am very proud of Linkin Park. There are important issues like war, global warming, world hunger, stem cells, etc in the video and I'm glad to see the band addressing these issues through the video. I will post both high and low res of the video as well as one for PSP after its US premiere.
