  • Linkin Park singer puts solo plans on hold
    posted by Jas, 06/19/07
Chester talks about Dead By Sunrise in an interview with Launch Radio Networks

Launch Radio Networks reports: Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington has put his solo plans aside for the moment to focus on his main band. Reports that Bennington was working on an album of his own first surfaced nearly two years ago, with the singer later telling MTV.com that he had up to three separate projects on tap. But Bennington told Launch that while he did start work on at least one side venture, he's put it on the back burner for now. "I was actually pretty deep into recording my other project, called Dead By Sunrise, and we were really far into the record," he said. "And then, you know, LP got together and we all decided that we wanted to make a record and start as soon as possible. So Linkin Park takes the lead, you know what I mean? So I stopped working on the record and I'll be finishing it up while we're touring over these next couple of years, and it'll be ready to go out."

Where's the Melody? It's Everywhere You Look
    posted by Jas, 06/17/07
Ne-yo talks about Linkin Park in an interview with NY Times.

It takes talent to yell at the top of your lungs like Chester Bennington. He does that raspy thing. It's amazing he does that night after night on tour and doesn't lose his voice. On "Minutes to Midnight" (Warner Brothers) they mix hip-hop with rock without sacrificing the integrity of either. The rock sounds like rock, and the hip-hop sounds like hip-hop. It's a guy rapping over an electric guitar, and it's beautiful. A bunch of groups have tried the rock-hip-hop thing, and they don't sound natural. It doesn't sound like Linkin Park sat around and said, "Hey let's be a rock group with a rapper." Their music doesn't sound contrived. They tend to tackle serious issues. Their lyrics make you think. There's nothing I hate more than a stupid song, or a song that makes you stupider.

How to share your faith using Linkin Park's What I've Done
    posted by Jas, 06/13/07
The Christian Post looks at Linkin Park's 'What I've Done' from a religious point of view

What I've Done, Linkin Park's new lead single from their Minutes to Midnight album, recently hit the Number 1 slot on Billboard's Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts. What I've Done is a thought-provoking, reflective music video, drawing attention to a wide range of social issues that we'll be confronting for decades to come. The music video dramatizes issues ranging from war and terrorism to famine and pollution. Add in the clips of racism, addiction, obesity and environmental concerns, and you have a catalogue of many of the key areas in which society has 'missed the mark' and failed to do the right thing.

Sound depressing? Actually, the song's lyrics present a very different picture from the haunting images that make up much of this music video. The lyrics focus on acknowledging the mistakes, facing the problems, 'fessing up, seeking forgiveness, letting go and moving on. What I've Done provides a natural bridge for bringing God's mercy and forgiveness up in your conversations. So let mercy come, and wash away, what I've done... Full article

    Review of Minutes To Midnight
    posted by Jas, 06/13/07
Detroit Metro Times reviews Linkin Park's Minutes To Midnight

In 1982, Rolling Stone devoted a cover story to the popular emergence of faceless bands such as REO Speedwagon, Journey, Styx and Foreigner. The piece implied that the sales dominance of bands with no perceptible charisma was a signal that rock was in seriously bad health. A full generation later, Linkin Park wields its facelessness like a knight's armor. The group's utter lack of personality has worked to its benefit, creating the perception that it's beyond glamour and celebrity. To Linkin Park fans, the band represents undiluted musical substance.

At a time when the music industry is staggering and sales are plummeting faster than George W. Bush's approval ratings, Linkin Park stands above the pack as the biggest band in America. Trying to figure out how they've done it is harder than trying to figure out how Carson Daly has managed to find sustained employment. To be sure, the rap-rock bandwagon the group rode in on is now a mere historical artifact. And while the band has reduced its hip-hop quotient by limiting the superfluous interjections from MC Mike Shinoda, that move has only served to expose the generic, polite roar of LP's brand of hard-rock.

On Minutes to Midnight, Rick Rubin's production is sharp and focused, particularly on such driving tracks as "What I've Done," but Chester Bennington is a seriously wimpy vocalist and his apocalyptic gloominess hasn't become any less hokey with time. And if Bono and Co. didn't have such fat bank accounts, Bennington would probably be looking at a plagiarism suit for the slow-burning "Shadow of the Day," which shamelessly rewrites U2's "With Or Without You."

In the end, Linkin Park is deserving of only the most backhanded compliments. While not exactly tuneful, LP is more tuneful than most of its big-riffing competition. And while they're not exactly enlightened, the band is much more enlightened than the nu-rock lunkheads (such as Fred Durst) with whom it once shared chart space. Finally, the group seems to be at peace with its own facelessness, and doesn't have any illusions about its star power. But the same thing could have been said 25 years ago about REO Speedwagon.

LP is MTV Artist of the Month
    posted by Jas, 06/11/07
I'm back! safe and sound, I actually arrived home on Friday but my mind decided to take an extended break over the weekend :-) Japan was awesome! wish I could stay longer, 7 days is not enough to explore Tokyo alone. Me and family went to Hakone, Lake Ashi and Kawaguchi, then in Tokyo we went to Akasuka, Shinjuku, Ginza, Akihabara, Shibuya, Harajuku and of course Tokyo Disneyland. I didn't feel like I was in Japan until I saw Mt. Fuji with my own eyes (pic 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), you always see it on post cards and paintings but to actually see it in front of you is so surreal! Of course every where I go Linkin Park is always with me :-) I even picked up a free mag at HMV in Shibuya where LP is on the cover. I also bumped into these rockers when I was at the Tokyo Dome city. Anyway, enough of my trip, back to work.

    Download Festival review
    posted by Jas, 06/11/07
A brief review of Linkin Park's concert at the Download festival over the weekend.

Linkin Park gave a shout out to Motley Crueduring their headlining set at Download Festival tonight (June 9). The comeback kings, who recently scored a Number One album with 'Minutes To Midnight' said they were sad to miss the Vince Neil led rockers who were playing on the Dimebag Darrell stage. Before playing'Somewhere I Belong' co-lead singer Chester Bennington said: "The only thing that I'm bummed out about is that I'm missing Motley Crue's set."

The group raced through their hits but also played a number of songs from their current album including 'What I've Done' and 'Bleed It Out'. Bennington told the crowd prior to 'Crawling': "We'd like to thank you guys for making 'Minutes To Midnight' Number One across the f**king world."And we just want to dedicate this show to all of you who've been Linkin Park fans since day one - I can see a lot of 'LP' flags out there."

Linkin Park played: 'One Step Closer', 'Lying From You', 'Somewhere I Belong', 'No More Sorrow', 'Papercut', 'Points', 'Given Up', 'Don't Stay', 'From The Inside', 'Leave Out All The Rest', 'Numb', 'Pushing Me Away', 'Breaking The Habit', 'In The End', 'Crawling', 'What I've Done', 'Little Things', 'Bleed It Out', 'Faint'

Watching the Linkin Park set was bass guitar god Steve Harris (Iron Maidern) who brought his children along to watch Linkin Park, also rumoured to be in the crowd was lead singer Bruce Dickinson. Watch a video interview with Steve backstage while LP was playing.
