Akon, Taylor Swift, Linkin Park in line for Grammy nods?
posted by Jas, 11/20/07
The LA Times report that Linkin Park will attend the Dec. 6 unveiling of nominations for the 50th annual Grammy Awards, to be held Feb. 10 in Los Angeles.

The first major clue as to who will be receiving some Grammy nominations was announced today by the Recording Academy. Akon, Taylor Swift (pictured) and Linkin Park will attend the Dec. 6 unveiling of nominations for the 50th annual Grammy Awards, to be held Feb. 10 in Los Angeles. Veteran rockers Linkin Park released one of the bestselling rock albums of 2007 with "Minutes to Midnight." It was produced by Grammy favorite Rick Rubin, and it's a lock to generate multiple nods in the rock fields. It received mixed-to-positive reviews, but saw the band bringing in some more topical songwriting.

Though "Minutes to Midnight" wouldn't make this writer's Top 100 (yes, hundred) albums of 2007, there were few rock releases this year with the same combination of commercial and critical success, meaning it could be in line for an Album of the Year nod. Also, don't discount the Rubin factor, as the man had a hand in three of five Album of the Year nominations last year. Those who announced the Grammy nominations in 2006 were all treated nicely once nominations were unveiled. Mary J. Blige, KT Tunstall, James Blunt, Justin Timberlake and Rascal Flatts attended last year's press conference, and none left without a Grammy nod. Full report

A short review and photos of Linkin Park concert in Shanghai.

There has long been a thirst for big international rock acts among Chinese music fans, and American rock band Linkin Park lived up to the expectations Sunday night at their Chinese mainland debut in Shanghai. When home-grown rock boys of Thin Man opened the night with a half-hour performance, the audience was so impatient they chorused for their American idols. Linkin Park finally appeared on the stage at around 9 p.m. and when the prelude of "One Step Closer" began, delirious fans stood up and began the rock journey. It was a two-hour show of deafening rock followed by chords from the full-house audience. The six-piece Linkin Park, which is among the most popular Western rock bands in China, performed old hit songs such as "In the End," "Numb," and "Somewhere I Belong," and wrapped up the show with new hits like "What I've Done." The band is slated to rock their fans in Hong Kong on Tuesday before hitting Tokyo on Nov. 23.

Once again thanks alot to Ruby for sending me a video clip of LP's concert in Taiwan, there's also a short clip from the press conference where Chester mentioned that they were indeed in the studio the night before the concert, download here More bootleg videos of the show here. UDN has a photo of Chester leaving Taiwan.

ffmuteki9 reports that Chester and Mike had asked the staff to book a studio for them to record their suddenly inspired song, and then they worked in the studio from 11/15 9:00 pm to 11/16 6:00 am, then went back to their hotel for some sleep. That morning Joe and Rob visited the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Their tour guide is a girl who's not into rock music and of course doesn't know who Linkin Park are, the guys kept asking her, "you really never heard of Linkin Park"? they then gave her two tickets and invited her to the concert. Rob said, "we are really good, you must come tonight." The guys bought quite a few things, Rob was thinking of buying this painting but bought a copy of this one instead.

LP in Taiwan concert review
posted by Jas, 11/18/07
Taipei Times has a review of the concert.

They came, nearly 40,000 people saw them, and they rocked. Fans of Linkin Park began lining up early Friday morning for the best spots on the field and in the stands at Zhongshan Football Stadium, for what organizers touted as Taiwan's highest-selling foreign concert since Michael Jackson. Despite light drizzle and a start that was delayed by 40 minutes, people arrived chanting "Linkin Park, Linkin Park," and when the California nu-metal band finally took to the stage, the 38,000 mostly young fans in attendance broke into a frenzy of cheers and shouts.

The chanting continued throughout the concert, with rhythm guitarist Mike Shinoda - who was clearly the crowd favorite - in the front, and singer Chester Bennington bouncing around the stage shouting vocals in a heavy-metal rasp. Linkin Park played electronica, rapcore and heavy metal numbers during their 100-minute show and had fans begging for more. Their stellar performance, combined with the fact that tickets sold out, will hopefully make Taipei a more enticing destination for other international acts.

LP in Taiwan concert reports
posted by Jas, 11/17/07
UDN has more reports on LP's concert in Taiwan, this article has some concert photos, Chester said "we are the best band in the world" when they sang What I've Done. It also said that it is the biggest concert in Taiwan after Michael Jackson 13 years ago.

This report has a picture of Mike and Chester during an interview. It also said that the concert were late for 40 minutes because they were stuck in traffic on their way to the stadium (too many cars and people were going to the same direction). They went to the studio to record the new songs on Thursday from 9pm to 6am on Friday. (They joked about how they were recording Chinese song) Joe and Rob went to the museum in the morning on Friday. It also reported that Joe said that he made Chester almost naked during the Shadow Of The Day music video and Chester said that he wore underwear and let Joe do whatever he wants. Someone asked do they want to try stinky tofu. Chester said, "what? I am not interested in anything stinky."

Thanks alot to Ruby for the brief translation, she also reports that someone went to the meet and greet before the concert and asked Chester whether he sang the Little Boxes song for Weeds, he confirmed that he indeed sang that song. Go here to see bootleg videos of the show, I don't keep track of LP's concert set list but Ruby said the set list is the one that starts with No More Sorrow and ends with Faint. Thanks Ruby.

Taipei Times has an article posted last week about the concert.

Update: Linkin Park extend UK tour
posted by Jas, 11/15/07
This time Chester talked to XFM about what to expect from their UK shows.

The multi-million album selling band kick off their four date jaunt - with support act Biffy Clyro - on January 24 at the Nottingham Arena and will now be heading down to London on January 28 for two finishing shows at London's O2. "For people who've ever been to one of our shows they probably already understand", he began. "We just come out and put 110% into our music, the focus is just on us playing our music and we've got a pretty packed out set of 22 songs so whatever side of Linkin Park you like, we'll be playing it." And this time fans can take home a special souvenir from the live shows, which each night being recorded and available as a digital bundle online for people to buy. "We wanted to give our fans the opportunity to take a piece of the show home with them", he explained. "So if there's a moment when Mike [Shinodo] jumps down and puts the microphone in your face and you wanna hear your voice or whatever you can."

Linkin Park extend UK tour
posted by Jas, 11/14/07
Linkin Park have added a second night of London's 02 Arena after their first date sold out. Brad talked to NME about the addition.

"The recent news of our show at the 02 selling out almost immediately is kind of emotional for us because we've been able to play big shows around the world but to have that really dramatic response to an on sale was really special. We're excited to be able to add the second night now." He continued: "I'm not just being polite, I really do love London in particular, when the weather's nice - we're spoilt because I live in Los Angeles. I love the culture, and we had a lot of support very early on from the UK and the UK's a tough place to crack, but it's been really great for us to have that support."

Delson also teased some of what fans have to expect from the tour. He stated: "We've been able to integrate songs from 'Minutes To Midnight' with songs from our previous albums. We've even developed some music just for our live show so I think with 'Minutes To Midnight' we've finally graduated to become the kind of live act that can put on a really three-dimensional headlining set. We like to work with our existing songs and rethink them for the stage. Especially. We've been performing a song off Hybrid Theory' called 'Pushing Me Away' live with just piano and vocals. It's one of those songs that got kind of lost in the shuffle among some of the more popular tracks but we revisited the arrangement and it's one of the highlights of our show right now."

Linkin Park On New UK Tour

Chester discuss the plan for the UK tour.

Having just scooped the title of 'Band Of 2007' at the MTV Europe Awards, Linkin Park are looking forward to coming to the UK with a series of massive shows across the country. The multi-million album selling band kick off their four date jaunt on January 24 at the Nottingham Arena, with a finale show at London's O2 on January 28. Frontman Chester Bennington - who recently broke his wrist onstage, yet finished the show with little more than a momentary grimace - told Xfm what fans can expect from the shows.

"For people who've ever been to one of our shows they probably already understand", he began. "We just come out and put 110% into our music, the focus is just on us playing our music and we've got a pretty packed out set of 22 songs so whatever side of Linkin Park you like, we'll be playing it." Linkin Park and The Horrors collaboration?
posted by Jas, 11/10/07
XFM talked to Chester who hinted at a possible future collaboration.

Speaking exclusively to Xfm, Linkin Park's frontman Chester Bennington revealed that he's a massive fan of goth-rockers The Horrors and hinted at a possible future collaboration. Famed for their musical collaborations with the likes of Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes, Linkin Park's frontman Chester Bennington revealed that there were plenty more potentials in the pipeline.

"There is some collaborations we're thinking about working on right now", he admintted, "But I can't say who they are yet in case it doesn't happen. There's so many great artists out right now, I could just put a bunch of names in a hat and pick one and it'd be really cool." As for which artists he'd like to work with specifically Bennington continued, "There's a lot of British artists - I think Amy Winehouse is really good, I heard a Babyshambles song the other day and I thought it was really interesting and actually kinda cool and I was surprised by that as I wasn't sure what to expect.

"Arctic Monkeys are really great and I also really like The Horrors, they're probably my favourite band right now." The band are currently on a high - despite Bennington breaking his wrist on stage (but finishing the show, telling Xfm it would take "someone to cut his arm off to cancel a peformance") - having just won 'Band Of 2007' at the MTV Europe Awards. As for which band name might be picked out of the proverbial hat, that remains to be seen. But with Linkin Park coming to tour the UK in January 2008 they'll be plenty of opportunites for them to get the ball rolling.

Chester calls California fires 'devastating'

The Pulse of Radio has a comment from Chester regarding the California fires

Chester Bennington told The Pulse of Radio that the disaster has touched everyone who lives in the region whether they were directly affected or not. "But I have to tell you, I think everybody out here has been affected by it, because it is devastating what these fires have caused damage-wise and emotionally to these people. The result was having some of the longest shows they've had thus far, in addition to a diversity of songs. Producer Rick Rubin has been a major influence in allowing Linkin' Park to create something totally new and experiment on their next album.
